Today in Austin, the Texas Senate is set to vote on Senate Bill 5, a sweeping hemp THC ban that flies in the face of Governor Abbott’s clear directive to regulate, not prohibit.

“Texas can and should reasonably regulate consumable hemp products… without eliminating consumer access altogether.” - Governor Greg Abbott, June 2025

SB 5 misses the mark — and goes way too far.

TAKE ACTION: Contact your Senator (again): Vote NO on SB 5!

This bill would ban nearly every hemp-derived cannabinoid, re-criminalize possession, and drive the entire market underground.

If passed into law, Texans would face jail time and a permanent criminal record for possessing federally legal products that have been used responsibly for six years. A criminal record can follow someone for life — affecting their ability to access housing, jobs, education, and professional licensing. Meanwhile, bad actors in the illicit market will thrive with no testing, no ID checks, no safety standards, and no accountability.

SB 5 is not a fix — it’s a step backward. Texas needs sensible regulation, not prohibition. Let’s keep fighting for freedom, safety, and fair cannabis policy.
