This week in Austin, Rep. Matt Shaheen introduced HB 2155, a bill that would ban the sale of consumable hemp products in Texas. It would also ban the shipment of these federally legal products into Texas.
We agree that improvements like age restrictions should be made to the consumable hemp program, but HB 2155 would ban the sale of all consumable hemp products. Prohibition takes away all opportunity to regulate these products to make sure they’re safe and kept away from young people. We support sensible regulation, rather than handing the industry over to the illicit market.
This bill is a work in progress and could be amended. Please take a moment to contact your legislators. Click here to send an email asking your state representative and senator to regulate consumable hemp products for responsible adult use, rather than prohibiting it altogether.
Reminder: Please always be respectful and provide thoughtful feedback when contacting lawmakers. You can keep it simple or, depending on your level of expertise, dive into the significant negative impact prohibition would have on our state and the many Texas business owners and employees in the hemp industry.
