We’re 100 days into the legislative session, with 40 days to go! Two major THC ban bills - SB 3 and HB 28 - remain under consideration by the House State Affairs Committee. On Tuesday, advocates hit the halls of the Capitol to bring attention to the harms of re-criminalizing THC.

We received lots of positive feedback, especially from legislative offices in the House. An outright ban seems unlikely, but the only viable alternative (HB 28) still bans nearly all THC products.

Not only does HB 28 ban the sale of all THC products except beverages, it criminalizes the simple possession of federally legal hemp edibles, patches, lotions, flower, and vapes. If passed, getting caught with hemp products could land a person in jail for up to a year. This is harsh, unreasonable, and will cause more harm than good.

Here’s an example of what you could say when you call:

Hello, my name is _______. I’m a constituent calling about Chairman King’s HB 28. I definitely support better regulations for the hemp industry, but I am opposed to criminalizing hemp products. Instead of handing this multi-billion dollar industry over to the illicit market, our state should accept responsibility for regulating businesses to effectively restrict youth access and ensure consumer safety.

Please help improve HB 28 with amendments that eliminate criminal penalties for possession, allow licensed business to sell THC beverages and other consumable products, and allow full spectrum hemp, not just isolated cannabinoids.

Thank you for representing our district at the Capitol. I appreciate the representative’s service.
