It has been a VERY busy week for cannabis advocates! In addition to SB 3 (THC ban) passing out of committee on Monday, SB 1505 (MMJ improvements) was approved by the committee yesterday. Both bills will soon be considered by the full Texas Senate.

Today is the bill filing deadline and dozens of cannabis bills have been introduced, ranging from decriminalization and medical cannabis expansion, to legalization and hemp regulations. All bills are listed here.

Yesterday I was interviewed by the Texas Standard (NPR). Listen here. (One correction: the state’s estimated fiscal impact of passing SB 3 was $19,000,000 - not $9,000,000 - but is now estimated to be more than $27,000,000, plus untold costs to our criminal justice system due.)

At least one cannabis bill will be considered in committee next week, including Rep. Briscoe Cain’s HB 1113, relating to hemp research, transportation, and testing. Learn more about this bill here and click here to electronically submit comments to the committee.
